Fusions

Gogeta:
This is the fusion between Goku and Vegeta. We see Gogeta in DBZ movie #12: The Rebirth of Fusion!! Goku and Vegeta and again at the end of Dragonball GT when Vegeta and Goku are trying to stop Omega Shenron.

Gotenks:
The fusion result of Goten and Trunks. Gotenks is seen in the Buu Saga when all else has failed to stop the evil Buu. It takes Goten and Trunks awhile to finally get the fusion right and when they do get it right they mess around to much and end up running through their time limit.

Kamicollo:
This is the fusion between Piccolo and Kami. Since they were once a single being, rejoining the 2 halves made them much stronger than if one of them fused with someone else. Before the 2 fused they decided on keeping Piccolo’s body since it was much stronger & younger. This fusion resulted in a powerful Super Namek and was the strongest being on the planet at the time of the fusion.

Kibito Kai:
This fusion wasn’t intended and happened accidentally when Supreme Kai and Kibito were showing Goku the Potara Earrings.

Old Kai:
This fusion happened when an old witch grabbed the Potara Earring off of the Supreme Kai 15 generations back. When the witch put on the earring the two were stuck together forever.

Piccolo:
When Piccolo was wished back to life on Planet Namek he quickly picks up Frieza’s power and starts to travel to it. On the way he comes accross one of the last Namekians, Nail. Piccolo is informed that he is no match for Frieza but if the two fuse they just might stand a chance. Piccolo is hesitant but finally agrees. They decide on keeping Piccolo’s body and when the fusion is over Piccolo goes on and on about how great he feels.

Super 17:
When Dr. Gero and Dr. Myuu meat up in hell they make a new Android 17. When this new Android 17 escapes from hell he meets up with the old Android 17 that Gero had made years back. The two fuse and create the all powerful Super 17.

Vegito:
We see Vegito when Goku and Vegeta fuse using the Potara Earrings. They would never have fused knowing that they could never again separate but they knew they had to in order to defeat Majin Buu. When Buu absorbed Vegito they happened to defuse. Vegeta and Goku then crushed the Potara Earrings.

Transformation Types

Since the show started, the creator of Dragonball, Akira Toriyama, really got a taste for transformations of characters. That way, you could never tell if the bad or the good guys had another trick up their sleeves. In this section you will see a picture along with info on just about all of the transformations ever seen. On this page is only a summary of the types of transformations featured in the series.

Henshin:
This type of transformation is very commonly used in Manga and anime. A character builds up Ki and changes his or her form. Henshin basically means ‘changing forms’. Each consecutive form is more powerful than the one before. The first transformation we see is the one from Zarbon, one of Frieza’s henchmen. He changes from a handsome guy into a frog-faced monster. Others who used this type of transformation are Cooler, Frieza and Garlic Jr. (although the last one also uses the Makyo Star to power up).

(Super) Saiyan Transformations:
These transformations get their own section. A Saiyan warrior is always capable of one transformation: Oozaru. In order for this transformation to work, the Saiyan has to have a tail, and has to stare at the moon. The rays the moon produces causes the Saiyan to transform into a giant ape called ‘Oozaru’. We first see this transformation when Goku is imprisoned by Emperor Pilaf, and tells his friends that a giant ape came out on a full moon and killed his grandfather Gohan. Goku than looks at the moon and transforms. Luckily Puar is able to shape-shift into a pair of scissors and cut off his tail, making him turn into a little boy again. Later we learn the tail can grow back. I’m not going to tell more about the other Saiyan transformations here. You’ll have to read about those in their own section.

Absorption:
Powering up and changing form with the use of Ki (and/or the Makyo Star) is one thing, absorbing other beings to gain strength is a whole other ballgame. In Dragonball two creatures use this type of transformation. The first one we get to know as Cell. This creature is an android, #21, designed by Red Ribbon Army’s evil genius Dr. Gero. He designed this almost totally biological android with the help of DNA he gathered from all the strongest warriors on Earth. It has the strength of a Super Saiyan, the regenerative powers of a Namek etc.. When it hatched it only missed one thing: the strength of the Androids #17 and #18. Cell absorbed both androids, one at a time, changing two times and reaching perfect form. At a certain moment, #17 was removed from his being, which made him revert to an earlier form.

The second character to use absorption, and the undefeated champion of absorption, was Buu. Buu is a creature that was created by the evil magician Bibidi, over 5 million years ago. He was so very evil and powerful that he was able to defeat the Higher Gods of the Universe, the Kaioshin, and he absorbed several of them. After absorbing the Dai Kaioshin (the most important Kaioshin), his evil was weakened because of the good of the Dai Kaioshin. It also made him take the form of this rather chubby God. In his weakened state Bibidi was able to imprison Buu, after which Bibidi was destroyed by the East Kaioshin, better known as Shin. Bibidi’s son Babidi succeeds in freeing Buu, and Buu starts absorbing. First he splits up into an evil and a good Buu, and the Evil Buu absorbs the Good one, making him change into Super Buu. Super Buu than absorbs Piccolo, Gotenks and Gohan, each time changing form.
